Darrelle London: News

Artist of the Month - June 1, 2009

Darrelle is the featured Artist of the Month on Wildy's World, a fantastic US-based music blog!

Wildy's wrote a great five-star review for Edible Word Parade and dug Darrelle's music so much, he bestowed her with the Artist of the Month title for the month of June.

Check it out here: wildysworld.blogspot.com

Thanks Wildy!

Darrelle's Tour Diary: Canada - June 1, 2009

I just felt like I should take a minute to tell everyone how much I love Canada.

I love Canada soooooo much. I kind of want to marry it and have 10000 babies with it.

The drive back from Nova Scotia reminded me of how beautiful our country is. Plus all the awesome programming on CBC that kept me company, including some live Joel Plaskett action.

What a wonderful country to call home. That's all.

Darrelle's Tour Diary: What Happens in New Minas ... - May 30, 2009

...ends up on the internet!

The fine folks at TAN CAFE filmed my show the other night, so we'll have some clips up on YouTube in the next week or so.

I dropped by TAN Cafe again last night to pick up the DVD of my show, and it happened to be karaoke night! They said they'd feed me dinner if I sang karaoke. I'm in no position to turn down free food.. so... there might be some video surfacing of me singing "Summer Nights" from Grease with a new Mova Scotian friend.

After my karaoke fun, I continued on to my show at the Wick Pub in Berwick. The people there were fantastic and I had a great time. After my set, we opened up the stage and enjoyed some local talent... Nova Scotians really know how to jam! All in all, a fun night and a great way to wrap up my tour.

In other news, Gregory Charles played my song "Bad" on his CBC Radio2 show, In the Key of Charles, last Sunday. I guess a lot of people tuned in, because I've had a great reponse from people wanting to know how to get their hands on my CD. Vancouver-based Virgin Radio DJ Buzz Bishop also took notice and wrote about me in his blog:
http://www.buzzbishop.com/blog/2009/05/26/in-the-key-of-charles/

So it's been a great week! I'm a bit sad the the tour is over, but I have some exciting Toronto shows coming up soon, ESPECIALLY June 10 with Amanda Mabro at the Rivoli!

Thanks for checking in!!

I'll be back.

Darrelle's Tour Diary: Halifax - May 26, 2009

Hello friends!

I am now in Halifax, one of my favourite cities! I'm sitting in the Just Us Cafe, where I played my show last night. I'm actually sitting in the same nook that I performed in... kind of strange. But it's a lovely little spot and the show was lots of fun.

Yesterday I went with my cousins to the citadel -- Halifax's giant old fortress up on the hill. We learned a lot about gun powder... something I must say I knew nothing about. All in all, an educational experience.

I have the day off today so I think I'm going to the beach with my friend Alicia! It's beautiful out, so I'm excited.

Tomorrow I'm off to play at Paddy's in Wolfville... apparently that's where all the rowdy Acadia students hang out. Hopefully they like quirky piano-pop!

Thanks for tuning in,
Darrelle

Darrelle's Tour Diary: Fredericton - May 21, 2009

I played a show last night at Crumbs Cafe in Fredericton to a small but beautiful audience. Sometimes I come across venues that I wish I could just pick up and take home with me to Toronto and this is DEFINITELY one of them. It's a great space with a wonderful owner named Bill. The staff, the promoter and the audience were so nice. And this is why I love the Maritimes!

I have the day off today to explore Fredericton. Then off to Rothesay tomorrow to play at the legendary Sessions Cafe!

Until next time.....

Darrelle's Tour Diary: Driving Driving Driving - May 19, 2009

Hello from New Brunswick/Nouveau Brunswick, Canada's only constitutionally bilinugal province, (according to Wikipedia).

Thanks for checking in on my tour blog. Today I drove from Montreal, Quebec to Edmundston, New Brunswick. The drive wasn't too exciting but it was very pretty.

I don't have a show tonight so I don't have much to report, EXCEPT that Edible Word Parade just got a 5-star review and was designated a Desert Island Disc by Wildy's World, a U.S.-based music blog. Check it out here: http://wildysworld.blogspot.com/2009/05/review-darrelle-london-edible-word.html

Tomorrow I'm playing at Crumbs Cafe in Fredericton, NB. Show starts at 9pm so tell your Frederictonian friends to come on out!

Let's keep in touch,
Darrelle

Darrelle's Tour Diary: Montreal - May 17, 2009

Hello from Montreal! The show last night at Centre-Ste-Ambroise was great! The room was packed, and the audience was fantastic. And as usual, Matt Stern and Daryl Lamoureux were wonderful.

In true Montreal style, we went to Dunn's for some smoked meat after the show. MMMmmm.

We had the day off today, so we decided to make a music video for "Understand"! It was a lot of fun to make, and I'm excited to post it when it's all ready. The concept is kind of hard to explain, but it involves running on a treadmill and boozing with stuffed animals. It's all very deep and metaphorical.

Talk soon,
Darrelle

Darrelle's Tour Diary: The Boy Is Mine - May 16, 2009

Don't you love being on tour?? I do! Thanks to everyone who has come out to these shows and been a part of these fun times! I've seen some old familiar faces out at schows, and lots of new faces too!

I've had the best time travelling and playing shows with Daryl Lamoureux and Matt Stern for the past few days. Tonight is the last show of our Canadian Invasion Singer/Songwriter Mini Tour. We are playing at Centre-Ste-Ambroise in Montreal. We're thinking about collaborating on a song tonight... maybe "The Boy is Mine" by Brandy and Monica?? We were practicing in the car and it sounds AMAZING.

After I bid farewell to Matt and Daryl and our HUGE entourage (ie my manager, Jordan-na), I will be continuing east by myself, with shows in Fredericton, Rothesay, Truro, Halifax, and more! So stay tuned....

Why I Love Nova Scotia (tour blog 5) - September 17, 2008

Tonight, after I finished my set, some of my new friends pulled out their guitars, mandolin, and fiddle and started jamming in the middle of the cafe. A few songs in, the venue owner joined in on harmonica. People wandered in off the street and took a seat at any table, regardless of who else was sitting there. It felt like a giant kitchen party. And that is why I love Nova Scotia.

the luckiest (tour blog 4) - September 15, 2008

I'm packing up in Amherst, Nova Scotia and I'm about to drive to Halifax.

This tour is going by so fast, and it has been an amazing experience so far. The way that people (some of whom I'd never met) have welcomed me into their homes along the way is amazing. I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to do what I love right now.

Exactly one year ago I was driving out east on a very similar route, but for a very different reason: I was looking at east coast law schools. taking campus tours, and meeting with admissions directors. It feels surreal to be back here one year later with such a different purpose. Law school may be right for me in the future, but this past year has made me realize that right now I must pursue my passion, which is making music. A year ago my plans for the future were confusing and hazy, but right now things are looking pretty clear (crystal clear, one might say haha).

I have lots of exciting things to look forward to when I return to Toronto, like Indie Week, upcoming shows, and finishing my album. But right now I'm just loving every minute of being on the road, playing my music for new audiences, and exploring a part of the country that I've always been drawn to. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

SAINT JOHN -- TOUR BLOG 3 - September 13, 2008

Hello from Saint John!

I’ve only been away for a week and two days, but it feels like it’s been forever! Probably because I’ve covered a LOT of ground a played a lot of shows (five, to be exact).

The radio interview in Fredericton was so much fun. Jim, the program director, was really cool and is very dedicated to giving independent music a voice. Throughout the interview, he played my tracks “Selfish,” “Bad,” and “Understand.”

When Jim asked me what my upcoming album is called, I realized that I should probably give it a name! I spent most of the drive from Fredericton to Saint John thinking of possible names, but I didn’t come up with much. I’m actually horrible at naming things, including my songs. It took me months to name “Crystal Clear,” and it was a friend who came up with that one. Now that name seems like the obvious choice, but it wasn’t so obvious to me! So if anyone has any suggestions for an album name, I want to hear them!!

Now I have a couple of days off before my show in Truro, Nova Scotia. Today I’m hanging around Saint John, maybe I’ll do some touristy things like check out the Reversing Falls! I have no idea how that works, and I’m pretty curious.

In other news, I was selected to play a showcase at INDIE WEEK Toronto, on October 8th at the Free Times Café. This will be my first Toronto show in several months, so it should be a good time! I’ll be judged by a panel of industry professionals for a chance to perform in the finals on Saturday, October 11th. Finalists compete for huge prize packs, and a trip to Ireland to play in Indie Week Ireland 2009! I would love it if you guys could come out for this show! Let’s impress the judges!

OK I’m off to the Reversing Falls!

FREDERICTON - TOUR BLOG 2 - September 10, 2008

Hello!

I just arrived in Fredericton, NB for my show tomorrow at UNB's Cellar Pub. I will also be going on CSHR Fredericton, which is UNB's college radio station. I'll be on air between 2:30 and 4pm and there's a chance I'll be performing a song. I think you can tune in online: http://www.unb.ca/chsr/home.html.

The second Montreal show was awesome. Grumpy's is now one of my favourite venues, and it was full of interesting people! I definitely plan to come back there some time.

I'm having trouble with my myspace right now, so my website is the only place I'm posting the blogs. So check back in a few days!!

Bye bye,
Darrelle

MONTREAL -- TOUR BLOG 1 - September 8, 2008

Hi friends!

This is my fifth day on tour, and so far it has exceeded all my expectations!

The first show in Montreal went really well. My booking agent/publicist, Jordan-na, is from Montreal so she told her friends and family about the show, and a bunch of them came out! They were a great audience, and they all displayed their excellent snapping skills when I played “Bad.” I had a really good time, and I hope I’ll be back at the Shaika Café sometime soon. I’ll post pictures soon.

My show in Ottawa at the Rainbow was also a success. I shared the bill with Zachari Smith, a singer/songwriter from BC who is also on tour. He had some great songs, and we swapped CDs, so I’ll have something new to listen to on the way to New Brunswick.

Tonight I’m playing in Montreal again at Grumpy’s. You should come (if you live around here)!

The only glitch so far was running out of gas on the way to Montreal. That’s never happened to me before, so it was a little freaky when the car sputtered to a halt out in the boonies just outside of Cornwall. Luckily there was an auto shop close by, and a nice mechanic came to the rescue with a jerrycan. I’ve learned my lesson though – I’ll be filling up at every gas station I see!

Until next time…
Keep fit and have fun! (I made that up myself.)
