Darrelle London: News
MMVAs and Lilith - June 24, 2010
Are you kidding me? This past week has not only been amazing, it has been truly surreal. I would say "pinch me" but I'm too afraid that I'd actually wake up and this would all be a dream!
Perez Hilton brought me to the MMVAs last Sunday. We got our hair did together and showed up in style in a crazy armoured tank-style vehicle. I had an amazing time on the red carpet, back stage, and ESPECIALLY at the crazy after party at the Opera House. I played a set for a fantastic audience, and the energy was incredible. I posted a clip from my set on my myspace profile. And if you missed the red carpet action, you can check it out here:
http://watch.muchmusic.com/featured/mmva..-10-red-carpet/#clip316001
As if the MMVA craziness wasn't enough, I found out this week that I won the Ourstage Local Talent Search for Toronto, which means that I'll be playing at the Toronto stop of Lilith Fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted this soooooo much, but never thought I'd actually win! Lilith was the fisrt concert I ever attended, back when I was about thirteen and I remember being so inspired and moved by all the talented women. The fact that I was chosen to be a part of such an amazing concert is beyond thrilling. Thanks to all of you who voted for me!
I'm planning my summer schedule, so be sure to keep checking back for new dates. I'm looking forward to heading back to eastern Canada, one of my favourite places in the world!
I hope to see you at a show soon (maybe at Lilith). Come say hi, but please don't pinch me... I want to keep this feeling going.
Love love love,
Darrelle

Hello everyone!
I'm happy to announce that my second single, Bad, is now on iTunes! You can check it out at

Bad is about trying to approach a break-up with a light-hearted attitude and a bit of humour. Relationships can be silly, after all.
Hope you like it!

The Road to MuchMusic - June 8, 2010
Yesterday I had an interview at MuchMusic. Actually, the interview took place at a dress shop called Fashion Crimes, but I went to Much Music first to meet the producers and get my makeup done.
Like most Canadians of my generation, I grew up watching MuchMusic. My friends and I would make it a regular habit of going to the Queen St. studio whenever we went downtown. We would spend all our loonies, filming ridiculous videos at Speaker’s Corner, just hoping that we might make it on the air. I remember peering through the dark glass windows of the Much studio, hoping to catch a glimpse of a VJ. One time I saw Master T. It made my day.
So entering that elusive, iconic studio yesterday felt surreal and really cool. I was interviewed by the adorable Liz Trinnear, MuchMusic’s newest VJ. We quickly bonded over the fact that we took the same program at the University of Western Ontario (Media, baby!). We talked and checked out party dresses for the MMVAs. Thanks to Fashion Crimes for letting us try on your beautiful dresses!
And thanks to MuchMusic, for making one of this Canadian girl’s dreams come true.
good feelings - May 29, 2010
Howdy there.
I know I keep blogging and saying “omg, it’s been the most amazing week!” I’m started to annoy myself with my repetitiveness. But it’s SO TRUE!
This has been an amazing week!! I played at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern on Wednesday to a full room of friends, family, and old and new fans! They were such a fun and supportive audience, I’ve been buzzing with that after-show giddiness for days.
ET Canada came to the show and we had a good chat. They got some live footage too, so I’ll let you know when I find out the air date for that.
I’m heading to the Big Apple next week to play at Arlene’s Grocery on Thursday, June 3. If you live around there, I’d love to see you at the show!
I hope you have all been enjoying the beautiful spring weather. A trip to Centre Island on Monday reminded me of how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful city.
Thank you for checking out my music, reaching out to me, telling your friends, coming to my shows, and generally being perfect.
Thank you.

best. week. ever. - May 15, 2010
I just got home from LA, and I had to fill you in on my busy but amazing week!
I had my first ever LA show on Tuesday at Hotel Café. It was a super fun night at a fantastic venue. I met some new fans and some industry folks who came out to check out my set.
On Wednesday morning, I headed to an amazing studio called NRG, where we recorded and filmed my set live-off-the-floor. Look for that footage soon!
And on Wednesday night I opened for VV Brown at the legendary Troubadour! Everyone from Elton John to James Taylor to Johnny Cash has played at this historic venue, so you can imagine how excited I was! The audience was great and very interactive (even snapping along with me to “Bad”)! Check out this review from GrimyGoods.com:

I’m now back home in Toronto, but there’s no time to slow down. I have upcoming interviews this week on eTalk and NewsTalk 1010!
These past few weeks have been beyond amazing, and I need to thank everyone who’s been responding to my music! You have no idea how much it means to me.
You’re the best!

Bad Lyrics - March 15, 2010
I'm so grateful that people have taken an interest in my songs and have been asking for lyrics! Here are the lyrics to Bad:
It’s strange and funny that a day after we broke up
I found out that we both like ginger ale
It’s strange and funny that a day after we broke up
I found out that I love you
Uh oh
So this is bad, this is heavy-chested bad
So bad, this is broken-hearted bad
And it’s a pity and it’s a big damn shame that the story got so sad
Badadadadada bad
Heavy-chested, broken-hearted Bad
It’s strange and funny that a week after we broke up
I found out that we both talk way too much
It’s so strange and kind of funny that a month after we broke up
I found out that time doesn’t heal my wounds
Uh oh
So this is bad, this is heavy-chested bad
So bad, this is broken-hearted bad
And it’s a pity and it’s a big damn shame that the story got so sad
Badadadadada bad
Heavy-chested, broken-hearted Bad
Don’t know what to say, when they ask if I’m okay
All those things that you did that annoyed me so much
I look back and I think that they’re cute
So this is bad, this is heavy-chested bad
So bad, this is broken-hearted bad
And it’s a pity and it’s a big damn shame that the story got so sad
Badadadadada bad
Heavy-chested, broken-hearted Bad
Badadadadada Bad, heavy eyelids I’m so tired
Badadadadada Bad, heavy fingers, I’ll keep playing
Badadadadada Bad, heavy-chested, broken-hearted Bad
Selfish Lyrics - March 15, 2010
People have been asking for lyrics to my songs. So, here's Selfish:
First of all, you’re just a little emotional
And not entirely practical
Neither am I, if you hadn’t noticed
You’re illogical, and we both struggle so hard to be punctual
We’re also forgetful
Remember that time when I left my key in the front door of my building
You laughed at me
I’m selfish and you’re needy and you’re selfish too
Why wouldn’t you be
And you’re jealous and I’m greedy and I’m jealous too
How couldn’t I be
I want someone who stays together while I come undone
Who doesn’t cry quite as often as I do, it’s kind of a lot
If you’re hadn’t noticed
I want someone who doesn’t drink alone
And it’s not that I judge you, it’s just that, you know
There’s a future to think of, at least so I’m told
And you’re not thinking of it when you call my phone
At three in the morning and you’re out in the cold
And you want to come in so you won’t feel alone
And you say “let’s play my favourite game again. Let’s play it again”
I’m selfish and you’re needy and you’re selfish too
Why wouldn’t you be
And you’re jealous and I’m greedy and I’m jealous too
How couldn’t I be
There are worse things I could be
And worse things you could be
But two of us, that’s just too much for me
And you’re brilliant
And I’m jealous and in awe of you
Why wouldn’t I be
You’re amazing, when you’re playing I’m in love with you
How couldn’t I be
Understand Lyrics - March 15, 2010
Thanks to those of you who have been asking for lyrics to my songs! Here's Understand:
Sorry if you wonder why I haven’t written you a song
Could you try and understand, it takes me pretty long
To trust you, not just you, but anyone
Could you try and understand
Sorry if you wonder why I don’t call you my BF
I don’t know if this helps but you can call me your GF
And your best friend and anything I seem to be to you
When they question what is she doing, what is she doing to you?
Could you try and understand
I don’t always understand
But could you try and understand and
Let me break it down for you
I’m happy when I’m with you and I’m sad when you’re away
There’s not much I can give you today, today
But when you call my cell phone, your name on the display
Puts joy into my stomach, today, today
Could you try and understand?
I don’t always understand
But could you try and understand, and
I’ll be your GF and your best friend
And anything I seem to be to you
When they question what is she doing, what is she doing to you
I’m your best friend, and anything I seem to be to you
When they question what is she doing, what is she doing to you
Could you try and understand
I don’t always understand
But could you try and understand
Could you try to, could you try to, understand understand?
boy oh boy oh boy - March 14, 2010
What a week!
Canadian Music Week has come to an end and I think it was the best one yet. I learned sooo much by attending the conference and met some great people.
I wrapped up the week last night by playing at my friend Dan Mclean Jr.'s fundraiser for CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health). The room was PACKED and the vibe was amazing!! We raised a lot of money for a great cause. Woo!
I'll be on the road a lot in the next few weeks, so I hope to see you at a show in Guelph, Waterloo, Oakville, or Ottawa!!!
Check the calendar for dates!
Thanks for being amazing,
Darrelle
Busy bee - February 4, 2010
Hello my friends,
These past couple of weeks have been busy, but SO amazing! I opened for Craig Cardiff at Nipissing University last week, which was such a priviledge. I also opened for Justin Nozuka, along with Peter Katz and Robyn Dell'Unto last week. A friend sent me a review of the show, which you can check out here (see what they say about our cover of "Umbrella"! We made it sound so deep...):
http://www.thecord.ca/articles/25746
Last Saturday, I played a show at C'est What back in Toronto with the lovely Andrea Gauster. The place was PACKED, and we all had a great time. My friend, fellow singer/songwriter Rehan Dalal, was kind enough to film my set, so look out for new YouTube videos soon.
With all this time on the road in hairy winter weather, I've had a couple of close calls, so please DRIVE SAFELY everybody!
February in Canada is usually a bit rough, but I'm trying to keep it light, with shows in Toronto, London, and Montreal. Check out the calendar section for dates, and join me!
When I'm not playing shows these days, you can find me sitting in a local cafe on my laptop, drinking giant bowls of tea (like right now). Not a bad way to pass the time.
Until we reunite soon,
Darrelle xo
I love shows, I love blogs - January 11, 2010
Hello friends,
Just wanted to let you know that I have TONS of shows coming up, all over the place. I'll be visiting North Bay, Waterloo, London, Guelph, and Montreal in the next couple of months. And ofcourse, I'll be playing right here in the Big Smoke a few times too.
Also, I have been fortunate enough to have my music reviewed by a few bloggers recently, and they have all been very kind. Wildy's Word named my CD, Edible Word Parade #12 in his "Top 40 Albums of 2009." Ottawa's MW Music Blog and Toronto's T.O. Snob have also recently reviewed my album. Check out the links below:

Darrelle's Tour Diary: Canada - June 1, 2009
I just felt like I should take a minute to tell everyone how much I love Canada.
I love Canada soooooo much. I kind of want to marry it and have 10000 babies with it.
The drive back from Nova Scotia reminded me of how beautiful our country is. Plus all the awesome programming on CBC that kept me company, including some live Joel Plaskett action.
What a wonderful country to call home. That's all.
Darrelle's Tour Diary: What Happens in New Minas ... - May 30, 2009
...ends up on the internet!
The fine folks at TAN CAFE filmed my show the other night, so we'll have some clips up on YouTube in the next week or so.
I dropped by TAN Cafe again last night to pick up the DVD of my show, and it happened to be karaoke night! They said they'd feed me dinner if I sang karaoke. I'm in no position to turn down free food.. so... there might be some video surfacing of me singing "Summer Nights" from Grease with a new Mova Scotian friend.
After my karaoke fun, I continued on to my show at the Wick Pub in Berwick. The people there were fantastic and I had a great time. After my set, we opened up the stage and enjoyed some local talent... Nova Scotians really know how to jam! All in all, a fun night and a great way to wrap up my tour.
In other news, Gregory Charles played my song "Bad" on his CBC Radio2 show, In the Key of Charles, last Sunday. I guess a lot of people tuned in, because I've had a great reponse from people wanting to know how to get their hands on my CD. Vancouver-based Virgin Radio DJ Buzz Bishop also took notice and wrote about me in his blog:
http://www.buzzbishop.com/blog/2009/05/26/in-the-key-of-charles/
So it's been a great week! I'm a bit sad the the tour is over, but I have some exciting Toronto shows coming up soon, ESPECIALLY June 10 with Amanda Mabro at the Rivoli!
Thanks for checking in!!
I'll be back.
Darrelle
